The Big Idea @ Small Business Week in Cape Town
Business Phase: Growth
16 - 18 August 2007 Cape Town International Convention Centre
The workshops in this section will focus on new and aspiring entrepreneurs.
Day 2 (Friday 17 August)
Workshop 1
Title: Take the Lead: Are you running your business or is your
business running you?
Time: 9:00-12:00
Venue: CTICC - Room 1.61
Facilitator: Richard Holt - Qualia Development Ltd
Target:
The workshop is aimed at small business owners who are running existing businesses. To get the most from this workshop it is likely that your business is at least two years old, you have a small team in place and you are asking the question what next?
Workshop Description
The workshop focuses on the fact that most owner managed businesses are nothing more than a distinct reflection of the owner and asks:
"If as leaders we try and change the business without changing the way we think, the business will never become any more than it already is"
The key to business growth is to change the way the owner thinks, then acts: then the business will follow. Sounds easy, so why is it that so many businesses stagnate and become a source of stress and sleepless nights?
This highly interactive and practical workshop examines the unique relationship that exists between the Business Owner and their business and how we as leaders often become our own biggest barriers to success.
At this event you will
Reflect on the distinct phases of small business growth.
Examine the unique personal and business growing pains and challenges faced by owners along the way.
Highlight the characteristics of really good and really bad business leaders.
Discuss your business with other entrepreneurs.
· Allow you to assess your own strengths and weaknesses, benchmark yourself and challenge your own leadership style and beliefs.
Research shows that entrepreneurs learn better from other entrepreneurs and this facilitated workshop will allow you to work creatively alongside other business owners and share their experiences, generating new ideas and create practical solutions for your own personal and business improvement.

Title: Social Media Marketing: Boost your business exponentially

Venue: CTICC - Room 1.61
Facilitator: Lluwellyn Diedericks - The Big Idea with Dave Duarte - Cerebra
Target:
For all Business Owners who want to refine and grow their online strategy.
Workshop Description
Social media is growing at an exponential rate; and increasingly complementing (and in some case replacing) search engines by helping people find content that is specific to what they are interested in. The reasoning is simple: the more useful you are to your networks and community (or customers, influencers and partners) the better you will be regarded by search engines and the more web traffic you will receive.
Regardless of your product or service, social media can and should be an integral part of your marketing strategy. Using our social media marketing strategy, you will deliver your message to the target audience via blogs and social media sites; and as a result, generate buzz about your business and create awareness about your business.
At this event you will learn
How social media marketing processes work.
Why the internet and web 2.0 are vital components of any competitive strategy.
How to develop an effective online strategy.
The key features of successful e-marketing operations.

Small Business Owners who want to take their businesses to the next level.
Workshop Description
Growing your business isn't just a worthy goal; growing your business is a necessity for your business's survival and your economic well-being. What can you do to get your business beyond the bare sustenance level?

.

Day 3 (Saturday 18 August)
Workshop 2
Title: Majestic Way - A Framework for World Micro Business
Domination
Time: 13:00-16:00
Venue: CTICC - Room 1.61
Facilitator: Luther Diedericks - SABusinessHub with Scott
Cundill - Majestic Way
Target:
Small Business owners that would like to build relationships and generate more leads for their business.
Workshop Description
The Majestic Way flies against the convention. It rips apart the traditional way of advertising and cold calling (which doesn't work).
To increase sales you need leads / feet through the door. To get these leads you need to work with databases. You have a database (although you may not think you do), and so do all the other businesses around you. Wouldn't you love them to send referrals your way?
The Majestic Way is the natural way of doing business because it follows the same growth principles used by all living things. It works so well that the author, Scott Cundill, has presented internationally on the subject. Following the Majestic Way will bring more business to your business.
At this event you will
Walk away with a logical and proven set of steps that network businesses together to generate leads.
Find out how you can implement these techniques without special training or significant technical skill.
learn that you require an open mind and a willingness to change how you do business.
Discuss your business with other entrepreneurs.
Experience light bulbs flash, paradigm shifts occur and vital learning points stick.
