Day, the World No 7, and his wife Ellie are expecting their first child on July 11, just one week before Royal Lytham St. Annes will host the third major of the year, the 141st Open Championship Mizuno JPX 800 Irons
"If the baby is coming that week, I will definitely be missing the British Open," Day said.

"There is no way I will miss the birth of my first child. Golf is one thing but family is everything to me.

"Golf isn't going to be there if I break my leg or if I lose the plot and forget how to swing a Mizuno JPX 800 Irons- my family will be there. It's family first every time."

Day is currently in Los Angeles, where he is preparing for his season debut on the PGA Tour at this week's Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club.

The Aussie hit the headlines in 2011 for his runner-up finishes at the Masters and the US Open, while solid showings at the Australian Open and PGA Championship later in the year helped to further boost his world ranking.

A runner-up finish in Qatar a few weeks ago saw him move up to seventh in the world - a career high for the 24-year-old.

Day's first big victory can't be far away, but he's even more excited at the prospect of the birth of his first childMizuno JPX 800 Irons

"I am a little nervous and a little scared but, obviously, also thrilled," he said.

"It's our first baby so I don't know what to expect but it's very very exciting.

"I have talked to a lot of people and they say it changes you for the good but I don't know how Mizuno JPX 800 Irons
will change me yet.
